Paula Burton
Parents As Teachers/Quality Care Coordinator
I have been with Smart Start of Davie County since 2004. My background includes working as a preschool teacher, in Child Care Resource and Referral, as an early childhood workshop facilitator and child care technical assistance provider. Most recently, I have had the pleasure to work with the Parents as Teachers program. I love the challenge of working with child care providers to maintain and improve quality child care environments. At the same time, I enjoy working with families to support them in helping their children build a strong foundation for success in school and in life.
Rhonda Kannenberg
Administrative/Resource Specialist
I am the most recent staff member at Smart Start. I recently relocated to Yadkinville after living in Arizona for four years. I am a graduate of Rutledge Business College with an A.S. in Business Administration. I later received my Early Childhood Credentails I and II, as well as my Early Childhood Certificate.
Before joining the Smart Start team, I worked as a Teacher, Assistant Director, and Director in the Early Childhood field. I also have several years administrative experience. As a previous Preschool business owner, I can appreciate the challenges that many parents and providers face. It is my hope to do whatever possible to lessen those challenges. I am excited to serve the Davie County community and the agencies affiliated with our office.
Dr. Corey Miller
Executive Director
corey.smartstart@yadtel.net
I have been with Smart Start since 2007. I bring a background in human services, with previous work experience as a United Methodist minister in Forsyth County, the county where I grew up. I also have worked for other non-profits, as well as County and State Government agencies in North Carolina and Washington state.
I am passionate about supporting the development of young children and their families, and enjoy working within our Davie community to bring about further opportunities. I believe that Smart Start can serve a great role: to offer needed services, spread the word about the importance of the first five years in a child's developmnet, and bring together community partners around this vital work.
Finance Manager
lisa.smartstart@yadtel.net
I am the Finance Manager. I joined the Smart Start staff in March 2010 after working since 2001 as Controller/Operations Manager at the Computer Tree in Winston-Salem. Previous to that, I worked at Thomas Crown Wood Products in Mocksville
and Goodwill Industries in Winston-Salem. I love horses! I co-founded Hoof and Paw Therapeutic Riding and Activity Center in Lexington. My husband, Brian and I own a farm in Mocksville.
Sheila Smith
Marketing & Event Coordinator
I joined the Smart Start team in August 2008 as the
Marketing & Event Coordinator. I have a BA in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and completed my second major in Public Relations at Pembroke State University. I have several years of experience in marketing and event planning, but have been at home with my two children for the past few years.
As a mom, I understand the importance of emphasizing early childhood development, and establishing a love of learning. My role at Smart Start is to establish and fulfill marketing goals so that the people in Davie County know that we are here and what we have to offer. I am also responsible for coordinating the special events, including Snacks with Santa held in November and KidFest held in April.
