Smart Start of Davie County has been advocating for the young children of Davie County since 1997. We are currently leading the charge to educate our community leaders, parents, educators, and childcare providers on how important the early years are to a child’s future development. By raising the community’s awareness on issues that affect young children, we are able to identify their needs and search out or develop solutions that will meet those needs.
Our programs can be categorized into three main areas:
Early Care and Education
 Technical assistance, intensive training, mentoring, and curriculum ideas to childcare providers that enhances the quality of care in their facilities.
Support and bonuses for providers working to obtain Early Childhood degrees which help to increase the quality of child care throughout the county.
Salary supplements for child care teachers to decrease the turnover rates in childcare facilities.
 Health Training and professional advice in developing appropriate health policies and procedures for childcare facilities.
Health assessments, immunization and record checks, screenings, and referrals offered by our Child Care Health Consultant in childcare facilities.
Family Support
Early Childhood Resource Center full of educational books, toys, games, and videos for parents and providers to check out.
ChildCare Resource and Referral telephone line that offers information on childcare options, importance of quality in childcare, parent education on family related issues and community resources.
Parents as Teachers national program which provides vital parenting information in the home environment.
Assistance to parents in affording quality child care for their children. Imagination Library which offers any child from birth until their fifth birthday in Davie County one free age appropriate book per month, mailed to their home. This program encourages literacy, parent/child interaction, and ultimately a successful start as the child enters school.
We provide Community Education in order to reach out to parents, providers, businesses, and also civic leaders here in Davie County.
