For Families

Life provides a very simple truth: no matter how many opportunities are provided for children, if we do not provide programs to also support their families, those opportunities will not achieve great results. We all know that parents are a child’s first teacher. That’s why we place a great deal of importance on offering several different types of family supportive programs.

Some examples of programs that we have to meet the needs of families in Davie County:

Early Childhood Resource Center
Also known as the “Toy Library”, it is our on site Center that is full of educational books, toys, games, and videos for parents and providers to check out. For much of those resources, it is a free service to our community.

Hours are Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Imagination Library
Offers any enrolled child living in Davie County one, free, age appropriate book per month from birth until their fifth birthday. The books are mailed to their home and addressed to the child. Provided in conjunction with the Dollywood Foundation, this program encourages literacy, parent/child interaction, and ultimately a successful start as the child enters school.

This program also depends upon the support of our community. It only takes $30 to sponsor a child for one year and $150 for their entire five years in the program. But to serve all the children we can, we need your help. Contact our office for information on how you can help give the gift of reading to a local child. You may even honor someone with your gift and we can provide you with an acknowledgment. Call 751-2113 to find out how you can help.

Parents As Teachers
PAT is a free, voluntary parent education and family support program serving families through pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age five. When you participate in PAT, a parent educator will provide monthly in-home visits and use the nationally developed Born to Learn™ Curriculum to help you discover ways to encourage language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills. It will helps foster a strong parent-child relationship and is proven to help prepare your child for school readiness. Contact the Smart Start office to enroll, 751-2113.
