Administrative Resource Specialist
I have been the Administrative Resource Specialist with Smart Start of Davie County since the beginning of September, 2011. I am responsible for the administration of the Imagination Library program, the Early Childhood Resource Center and Child Care Resource and Referral. I also provide administrative support to the Executive Director and other staff members when needed.
I began at Smart Start as a temporary employee filling in for someone on maternity leave and was fortunate to become permanent in that position. I am excited to be working with the staff at Smart Start and helping the young children of our community reach their highest potential.
Aura Melgar
Parents as Teachers Coordinator & Educator
While I may be the newest member of the Smart Start of Davie County team, I am not new to Parents as Teachers. I have worked as a Parent Educator for five years in a neighboring county. Prior to my work as a Parent Educator, I have worked as a Spanish Instructor for Davidson County Community College and in the health field. I now hold my Parents as Teachers Parent Educator Certification.
Originally from Guatemala, I am bilingual and am ready to work with any population who may need Parent Education services. I enjoy working with diverse populations and especially with children, birth to five.
Mary Beth Scebold
Executive Director
I joined Smart Start of Davie County in December of 2010. With over a decade of experience in the non-profit field, I formerly held positions as Executive Director of Davie County United Way, Director of Resource Development for Communities In Schools of Wake County, Corporate Relations Director for Special Olympics North Carolina and various fundraising positions within the March of Dimes.
I enjoy being involved in the community. I serve on boards or committees for several non-profit organizations and my church. I graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. My major emphasized public relations for nonprofit organizations.
My husband, Brian, and I live in Mocksville with my three children.
Sheila Smith
Marketing & Event Coordinator
I joined the Smart Start team in August 2008 as the Marketing & Event Coordinator. I have a BA in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and completed my second major in Public Relations at Pembroke State University. I have several years of experience in marketing and event planning, but have been at home with my two children for the past few years.
As a mom, I understand the importance of emphasizing early childhood development, and establishing a love of learning. My role at Smart Start is to establish and fulfill marketing goals so that the people in Davie County know that we are here and what we have to offer. I am also responsible for coordinating the special events, including Snacks with Santa held in November and KidsFest held in April.
