WHAT: Learn how to score well on ECERS-3 using resources from the NC Rated License Assessment Project (NCRLAP). This training is designed to help directors and teachers of 3- and 4-year-old classrooms prepare for Environment Rating Scale assessments. Please note: teachers of two-year-old classrooms will likely need ITERS-3 training, which applies to classrooms where most children are under 36 months.

WHAT: Learn how to score well on ITERS-3 using resources from the NC Rated License Assessment Project (NCRLAP). This training explores key components of the third edition and is designed for directors and teachers in infant, toddler, and two-year-old classrooms. Note: Because ITERS-3 now applies to classrooms where most children are under 36 months, teachers of two-year-olds are strongly encouraged to attend.
2/26/2026: Managing Children’s Behaviors by Teaching Social and Emotional Skills Training (HYBRID)

WHAT: Learn the strategy of "Pause, Ask, and Respond" to manage children's behaviors. We will discuss how pausing can help teachers determine what skills the child is missing. By looking at the situation from the child's perspective, we can teach the missing social and emotional skills needed to better manage children's behaviors and big emotions. NC FELD will be used to identify age-appropriate emotional and social skills.
3/10/2026: Movement Activities to Teach Self-Regulation and Reduce Misbehavior Training (In-Person)

WHAT: Do you wonder why children can't control themselves or how to help them self-regulate? Self-control is connected to healthy social and emotional skills. In this session, teachers will learn how to use movement activities to teach children self-regulation, social, and emotional skills. By purposely planning movement games, teachers can reduce misbehaviors in the classroom. This training will be full of fun games, movement, and songs guaranteed to make your days easier.

WHAT: Lesson planning and assessment go together like peanut butter and jelly. Learn how to connect these two concepts in ways that are helpful for your teaching and communication with families. 4/23/2026: ITS-SIDS Training (VIRTUAL)

WHAT: The Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep and SIDS Risk Reduction in Child Care (ITS-SIDS) training prepares caregivers to set up safe sleep environments and follow safe sleep practices that may reduce the risk of injury and death from SIDS and other sleep-related infant deaths.
ONLINE TRAININGS OFFERED BY OTHER AGENCIES:
Recognizing and Responding to Suspicions of Child Maltreatment Training
This 2-hour training is required by the Division of Child Development and Early Education for new teachers within 90 days of employment and needs to be renewed every 5 years thereafter. FREE.
North Carolina Rated License Assessment Project
This link provides options for pre-recorded contact hour trainings and upcoming live event trainings. All trainings are related to ITERS-3/ECERS-3/SACERS-U. FREE.
Childcare Resource Center Trainings
This link provides training options offered by the Childcare Resource Center or other Smart Start agencies.
Childcare Educational Services Trainings
This organization offers virtual trainings for a FEE and has been approved by DCDEE.
TRAINING POLICIES
Pre-registration is required. Use the links on the Smart Start of Davie website to register. Training links will be closed 2 days before the training. All registrants must have an individual email address.
Classes are subject to cancellation unless a minimum number of attendees are registered 48 hours before the class.
Trainings will be offered virtually via ZOOM platform or in-person.
For virtual trainings, links will be sent within 24 hours of the class. If you have not received a link by the day of the class, please contact our office at 336-751-2113 or email info@daviesmartstart.org. Host and/or trainer direct information will be included in this email. This link should not be shared with others. Individuals who are not registered will not be allowed to join online trainings. For virtual trainings, cameras need to be on. If cameras are not able to be on, participants must actively participate by coming off mute or engaging in chat.
Two “no-shows” with no explanation in one fiscal year will result in being put on the waitlist for future trainings.
Admittance is not allowed after the first 15 minutes of class.
Kindness and respect for one another and the presenter are expected.
Please be courteous and turn off your cell phone during the training. If you must take a phone call, please leave the training area.
Children are not allowed in the training area & must be accompanied by an adult in the lobby at all times. Prior approval for extenuating circumstances needed.
Trainings should not be attended while working in the classroom, taking attention away from supervising young children. Teacher/child ratio in the classroom should be maintained at all times.
Certificates not issues the night of training will be issued 48-72 hours after a training is completed. Participants MUST complete all surveys/evaluations necessary to be eligible to receive a certificate. The exception to this is CPR, which can take up to 2 weeks to receive.
CPR trainings are typically scheduled in the months of August, November, February, and May.
ITS-SIDS trainings are typically scheduled in the months of October, January, April, and June.
TRAINING PAYMENT INFORMATION
Smart Start of Davie County will continue to provide FREE training for teachers who serve children birth to five in Davie County, unless otherwise noted below (please note, there is a $10 fee for teachers who serve children outside of Davie County):

$40: Davie County Providers ; $85: Out of County Providers
(Smart Start of Davie County pays a portion of the fees for educators who live OR work in Davie County)

If you must cancel, please remove yourself from the training sign up and contact the Smart Start Office at 336.751.2113 or info@daviesmartstart.org at least 3 business days prior to the meeting.
A $10 no-show fee will be charged to those that sign up for a class but do not attend. Space is limited in each class and no-shows take a training opportunity away from another child care professional.
This fee must be paid before signing up for any other class through Smart Start of Davie County.
